A herd bull can make or break your breeding program. The right bull can make you money and the wrong bull can make your head ache.
Give your decision of choosing a herd bull the attention it deserves.
Selection of your herd sire should be based not only on EPDs, indexes, calving ease, soundness, and temperament, but also on what you are trying to improve in your herd.
Also consider your environment. Although a larger, good milking cow may do well in lush regions and on irrigated pasture, a smaller sized cow that milks less may be better suited for more arid rangelands. Select those bulls that produce the type of cattle you desire.
