Matheson Farms is a holistically managed beef operation in beautiful Whatcom County in Washington State. We have Simmental and Sim/Angus breeding stock, feeder cattle, and grass fed beef for sale. Owner/manager Dr. Sandra Matheson, a Certified Educator in Holistic Management and retired Veterinarian, also provides training, consulting, monitoring, video, and facilitation services through our new Sustainable Living Education Center.
We strive to produce high quality, sound, and healthy beef cattle. We work to improve each generation of cattle for optimum functionality, stayability, temperament, carcass traits, and conformation.
At Matheson Farms, we manage in a way that takes into account the big picture. We do our best to work with nature and leave the land better than when we received it. Our philosophy is to make “holistic” decisions that are socially, ecologically, and economically sound and balanced—and to help others do the same!

Matheson Farms is a local farm that manages cattle in a humane, natural way that appeals to my values as both an animal lover and consumer. I’ve been involved with the entire round of cattle raising on Matheson Farms—from birth to cull. My appreciation for these animals has grown from this experience. Matheson Farms does not have a feedlot or tightly corralled, stressed cattle waiting to be processed. They graze on native grasses in open fields that are healthy and pesticide free. These animals move in genetically diverse families that protect each other (in the occasional cougar attack), play together and live together. Even the quick and low-stress process of culling a steer shows a profound sense of respect that Matheson Farms have for their cattle and their land.
